PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM Overview

McLane Technology Partners (MTP) Intro. to Information Security Professional Pre-Apprenticeship Program is designed to equip entry-level workers for Registered Apprenticeship programs.  MTP’s Intro. to Information Security Professional Pre-Apprenticeship Program supports the development of a skilled and diverse workforce.  Our programs have the flexibility to meet the needs of our students and employers.

The course starts with emphasis on the familiarity with core security terms and principles. At the completion of the class, you will fully understand the Principle of Least Privilege and the Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability (CIA) Triad, and you'll see why those principles drive all security discussions. You will be able to articulate the fundamentals of risk management, security policy, authentication/authorization/accountability.

In addition, this course explains how computers handle numbers using decimal, binary, and hexadecimal numbering systems.  Students will also learn how computers encode letters using American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII).  The course will also learn the basic crypto terminology and processes.  In addition, the course will explore cyber security technologies.  We will review wireless network security, and mobile device security.  We also discuss malware and anti-malware technologies.  We also learn about compartmentalization, firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, sniffers, content filters, and other security topics.  We also look at data protection protocols, remote access, secure web access, file transfer and Virtual Private Network technologies. Included in the course, students will learn system security, application security and intelligence gathering methods and how to defend against them.

Minimum Qualification:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must have a driver’s license with reliable transportation
